Boca Grande Fishing Charters Dec/Jan Fishing Report 2015

Inshore & Nearshore fishing have been busy on our Boca Grande Fishing Charters!

As Boca Grande Fishing Charters move into the winter months, we are met with cold fronts, north winds, cool water temperatures & extreme low tides. These conditions change the fishery & charters in a variety of ways.

Inshore

Inshore fishing is going through a number of transitions. Snook have migrated from the beaches & passes to the creeks & canals. They are quite docile as the water temps plummet, but can still be targeted & caught in good numbers. We have been catching 20+ fish per trip when we find the groups. The massive schools of redfish have moved out & dispersed into small groups of fish roaming the flats & sand holes in the back waters. They are being targeted with a variety of baits around the edges of the sand holes or tailing on the flats during these low tides. If you can get to them you can catch them. 15-20 per trip is the usual. Trout fishing is about to get really good. As the temperatures get cooler, the trout are moving from the deeper waters on to the edges of sand bars & on to the grass flats & sand holes. They are very aggressive as bait becomes more scarce & 60+ trout days are very common on trips this time of year! Remember that the bigger trout are the egg bearing females, so handle them with care!

Nearshore

Nearshore fishing has been great as well. The drop in water temps also push the offshore species to the nearshore wrecks & reefs. Big gag & red grouper are being caught close to shore on live bait & trolled lures. Snapper fishing is still great with cut sardines being the bait of choice this time of year. Cobia are also being found all over the nearshore wrecks and can be targeted using all types of bait. We have caught some cobia up to 40lbs this year! Tripletail are also showing up in good numbers on the crab trap buoys that are just offshore all up & down the beaches. Sight fishing with live shrimp is best for catching them & they are some of the best table fare around!

Fishing overall has been great & will continue to be good as long as the weather cooperates! I have some holiday dates still available, so call today to get out on the water while everyone up north is fighting the snow!

Boca Grande Tarpon Fishing is just a few months away. Be sure to plan your trip of a lifetime soon. Plenty of dates are still available but they are filling up fast. Be sure to plan early to get the dates that you want.
